In the bustling heart of Munich, a monumental transformation is underway. With a €650 million investment, the automotive giant is paving the way for a future that is not only electric but also innovative and sustainable.

Peter Weber, the director of Plant Munich, exudes pride and excitement for what lies ahead. “Munich is the beating heart of BMW,” he declares. “We are thrilled to lead the Munich plant into a fully electric future, starting with the Neue Klasse sedan.”
The Neue Klasse philosophy, which revolut
ionized the company’s mainstream car range in the 1960s, is being reimagined for the electric era. The company plans to launch six new models within two years, beginning with an SUV that will be manufactured in Hungary at the BMW plant in Debrecen. Despite these changes, the launch of the first Neue Klasse sedan in Munich reaffirms the company’s commitment to its roots, keeping its most traditional body style at its halo plant.
Production of the Neue Klasse will not be limited to Munich. It will also take place in China and Mexico, with Hungary serving as the hub for manufacturing high-voltage batteries for a new fast-charging 800v architecture. This investment demonstrates the company’s unwavering confidence in its flagship Bavarian home.
Milan Nedeljković, a board member, emphasizes the company’s commitment to exploring alternative energy solutions. “Hydrogen remains an important alternative,” he states. “We are actively testing hydrogen cars and continuously working to enhance the technology. Our facilities are designed to remain flexible, accommodating not only electric vehicles but also hydrogen and other emerging technologies.”
This ambitious project not only signifies a new chapter for the company but also serves as a testament to its enduring legacy of innovation. As it pioneers the transition to a sustainable future, it invites you to join them on this exciting journey toward electrification and beyond. Together, let’s pave the way for a brighter, cleaner tomorrow.
